immigration and reproduction II

Apparently Senator Lindsey Graham wants to introduce legislation that would prevent babies born to illegal immigrants on US soil from being US citizens.

Here are two choice quotations, lifted from Politico:

“People come here to have babies,” [Graham]  said. “They come here to drop a child. It’s called “drop and leave.” To have a child in America, they cross the border, they go to the emergency room, have a child, and that child’s automatically an American citizen. That shouldn’t be the case. That attracts people here for all the wrong reasons.”

“… I do know what makes people mad, that 12 million people came here, and there seems to be no system to deal with stopping 20 million 20 years from now.”

Maybe Senator Graham should study the history of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. That law– which prevented Chinese people from entering the US — rode a wave of anger at declining economic conditions brought about by the end of the gold rush boom.

  1. This guy is a total whack job.

I’m sorry, but any woman that does anything 9 months pregnant, let alone cross the Rio Grande, deserves a fucking medal and anything she damn wants.

On another note, I work in the environmental field – this line of talk by Graham is totally the “population control” folks in the enviro movement – keep the brown people out so that don’t deplete our resources. No one in North can with a straight face talk about population control without talking about the underlying racism associated with it.
